Sooooo, do you have any idea what that gobbledy gook collection of letters and numbers even means? No stress–most people have no clue! SRA F82 is the number I was assigned when I was accepted as a Self Representing Artist. And now you ask, what the heck is that?
Self Representing Artist’s “are a group of glass artists who are dedicated to the art of lampworking, an ancient art form that flourished in Italy in the 1300s and then spread throughout Europe, the Americas and the rest of the world.
We work at home in our own studios, making beads, marbles or other glass objects one at a time. Patiently and carefully we strive for perfection in every object that we make. We are from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Israel, Germany… all over the world!
As self-representing artists, one of our greatest challenges is finding ways to bring our art before the people who want to own it, and educating those buyers about the uniqueness and quality of our work. We hope that this directory will help you to discover us and learn a little a bit more about our process, our studios, and our personalities; and, of course, our art!”
So you can see, this is a nice honor to uphold and be a part of. It is also a great way to know you are buying and supporting an artist who takes pride in creating and selling a piece of art created entirely by hand–using their own hands!
Factory produced goods are just that–factory produced. There’s just no soul or good karma infused in it during creation. I know I am among many glass artists that allow the glass to birth the creation; it’s usually way more in charge to begin with…!
So it is natural to coax (and occasionally curse) the final design to emerge from this crazy hot mess of molten glass, with kindness, encouragement and good old fashioned please-don’t-crack karma!
Look for and buy often from Self Representing Artist‘s, and you’ll know you’re supporting a slightly crazy but karmically balanced artist with handmade bonafides!
Smiles, Sheri
