Glass Button–“Happy Yellow Fellow“
This glass button was one of my first successful 2 hole buttons–I pulled the little points just right after placing enough glass on each of the dots that were magically spaced evenly! Wow! Could it get any better? Well, yes actually!
I’m not a big yellow fan in general–I’m much more partial to blues and greens and purples. So putting together a selection of glass that harmonized in a yellow color scheme was a bit of a challenge. I wanted the glass button to be sunny and bright…….and in the end I think it worked.

After laying the foundation of the button on a 3/32 button mandrel, the oranges and yellows layered on the points were then raked, and the raking softened the colors, while adding movement.
Silver glass is just that– a glass created with a silver content. When heated enough (and not too much or it will burn it out) the silver rises to the glass surface. In a certain angle, the tips are translucent, and then a slight movement shows the silver. It’s a neat effect!
The silver glass I used on this button was one from Double Helix. The silver glass adds a nice bling to the tips of this button for a little flash. I’m sorry, but I cannot remember which one I used, but I know I like them all and continue to add to my stash little by little. Thank goodness it doesn’t always take a lot to make whatever it’s added to really shine and especially when it makes them color to their fullest degree or effect.
I like making glass buttons, and whether they are added to another handcrafted item, or used to transform something you already own, they are a little piece of one of a kind art that really personalizes whenever they are added!
I would love to see whatever my creations are added to, whether its part of a piece of handcrafted one of a kind jewelry or enjoyed as a touchable piece of glass art. Please contact me with a description, or a link, or a photo or two! It’s always such a thrill to see another persons vision and interpretation, and I enjoy this grace of sharing.
Thank you!
